Those who are called according to his purpose!

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Rom 8:28

I should not be surprised or amazed that when we trust God and walk in faith, our Lord brings individuals who are called to journey with us. For Faith N Hope International Ministry, I am constantly reminded that this ministry is guided and led by our Savior and that we are God’s instrument to serve orphans. God’s promise is tangible and is demonstrated through individuals God brought to our ministry.  I like to introduce Hyune, our supporter, prayer warrior, and advocate for our ministry. Hyune was introduced to Soo through a missionary who worked with orphans in the Dominican Republic. Words Hyune penned below demonstrates how God brings the right people at the right time.

“My name is Hyune Hand and I am Korean born, raised in Brazil and an American citizen. I have been in the US now for 30 years so I can say that I have lived in the US more than anywhere in the world. Although hard beginnings, I have been blessed on so many levels that will require pages and pages to write, but I am sure you are not that interested in that right now. I tend to scope creep, so let me state the purpose of this write-up: to share how I feel privileged to have been exposed to and involved in Faith n Hope ministry.

For a long time, more specifically about 15 years ago, I realized my life was out of balance. Although being in awe of what God has done in my life, the miracles that have been manifested and although I was fully aware that it was His doing, our omnipresent Father's power, I was a bit passive and did the minimum, below minimum actually, to love and act as a Christian. I went through so much adversity and once achieving success of the American dream, I became very comfortable. However, this comfort did not lead to peace so I felt like I needed to do something.

As we looked into some good works that we can partake in, one area that always called me was to focus on children's causes. Children are the most vulnerable beings in the world if they have nobody to protect and love them. I did some light research, we started to contribute to the well known organizations that aid children and also did mission work that involved visiting orphanages and teaching Sunday schools. All not bad, but they were luke warm, transactional and I was doing for myself under the mask of being a good Christian. First, there was no Chris centrism in what I was doing. It was Christian work, but I had not consulted God if this is where He wanted me to be, just did through my logic and emotion of wanting to feel good doing Christian work. In the end, I am not sure if I bore any spiritual fruits. I will say not. In the lives of these children, I am sure there was absolutely no impact. Yes, some moments of love and getting exposed to transitional joy, but those moments that will fade were it.

Fast forwarding the clock, through connection, a missionary introduced me to Faith n Hope and through digital media, I met Soo Kim and through classic media, telephone, we engaged in a great dialog. Then through antique media, "Planes, Trains and Automobiles." Soo came to DC from Colorado Springs despite CV threats to meet with me. She loves the Lord and you can see and feel it. I had read about the ministry when being introduced and had gotten more info during our call, but nothing like actually seeing the leader of the ministry sharing the mission. Her passion and testimony are compelling and her outpouring is done with so much humility. You see the light through her. She brought-up in me what I have known, but needed to be awakened and that is HIs command to watch out for the vulnerables, not transactionally, but to ensure they are taken care of while we are still living on this physical Earth.

What I love about this ministry is that it is pragmatic and sustainable for the child. You do not go there to shake their hands and leave with "see you around." You don't just write checks although we need to in order to keep it funded and "fueled." The essence is to share Christ, the Good News of the gospel while putting our faith in action through obeying His command of protecting and defending the "fatherless." I am yet to experience the field work and I am praying, being still to hear Him to ensure I am acting in accordance to His will, but I do know that you have to obey as the first step.

It is a blessing for us to have Thomas and Soo stand this ministry up to give us all the opportunity to serve. This is just the beginning. We want to bear fruits since one day we will be facing Jesus face to face and we will be accountable. But more importantly through our gratitude for the grace that has been poured for our salvation, this is the least we can do.”
