Every child should have what the rest of us take for granted.

The name is not a slogan.

Faith is our daughter. Hope is a teenager from the Amerasian Christian Academy who came to live with us, went to school with our children, and became a daughter to us in Christ. Two girls in one photo. That is what the ministry is named for.

Soo's calling to orphaned and overlooked children started on a mission trip to Haiti in 1989. After she and Thomas married in 1991, they spent years discipling young people and, from 2005 to 2017, led annual short-term teams to ACA in Dongducheon, South Korea. Somewhere in those years short-term stopped being enough. They began opening their home. Hope was the first. Another young woman who lived with them went on to finish her Doctor of Pharmacy before returning to Korea.

For eighteen years Soo and Thomas also ran NDU Education, an education company serving international and domestic students and overseeing international programs at Christian schools. That is where Faith n Hope learned how to teach, how to place a child with a family across an ocean, and how to run a camp. In 2020 they moved that experience to Korea and put it to work for children who had no one to run it for them.

Thomas is an Army combat veteran who spent his career leading nonprofits and public agencies in the United States. He handles the parts of the ministry that don't fit in a photo: the paperwork, the partnerships, the church relationships, and most weekends, the drive to the Gimcheon children's center and back.

Soo and Thomas have been married 35 years and have two adult children, Christian and Faith, and grandchildren who are growing up around this work.
