A relationship with Jesus Christ is the foundation of a meaningful life. Without it, every success in the world still leaves a person empty. So that is where we begin. Everything Faith n Hope does, in four children's homes across Gyeongbuk, residential centers where many children grow up together, grows out of one aim: to introduce the love of Christ and offer a hope that does not run out.

Spirituality
The foundation, not a program. Before English lessons, before trips, before mentors, there is the good news that a child is known and loved by God. Our volunteers carry that into every visit, in how they listen, how they pray, and how they keep coming back.
Every December we bring Christmas to each children's center. Not a visit to a party somewhere else, but a celebration in the place the children live, so that the story of Christ's birth is told where they sleep.

Education
Twice a week, a team of missionaries and volunteers goes into four children's centers in Gimcheon, Yeongdeok, Pohang, and Mungyeong. English is the reason we're in the room. It isn't the point. The point is a child who knows an adult will be back this week, who hears the love of Christ from someone who learned their name, who has a mentor before they know the word.
With a curated curriculum for children, we work through games, conversation, and one on one time. The English gets better. That's the part everyone can measure. What we're after is harder to measure and matters more.

Experience
Three ways the world gets bigger.
Every summer, all the children Faith n Hope serves, from all four centers, gather in Gimcheon for English VBS at the Logenir Hotel. For most of the year they are four separate groups. For that week they are one.
Through the year, we take them places: an experience museum in Seoul, the KEPCO headquarters in Gimcheon Innovation City, and wherever else a door opens. When the centers plan their own outings, we help cover the cost so no child stays behind.
During Korea's winter break, some travel to the United States and Canada and live with Christian host families. For many it is the first time on a plane, the first time at a family dinner table abroad, the first time someone has said "we saved you a seat." They come home with wider eyes and a bigger picture of what their life can hold.

여름에는 네 시설의 아이들이 김천에 모여 영어 VBS 캠프를 열고, 한 해 동안 서울과 김천 곳곳으로 체험을 떠나며, 겨울방학에는 미국과 캐나다의 크리스천 가정에서 더 넓은 세상을 만납니다.

Relationship
One mentor for one child. Video messages back and forth, prayer by name, encouragement when a test goes badly and cheering when it goes well. Over time, the mentor is joined by counselors, friends, and church family until the child can say the words every child should be able to say: my community.

A curriculum rooted in Scripture, shaped around the children in front of us, is the backbone of what happens twice a week. Gongteo English (공터영어) strengthens it. Under a formal partnership, their corporate philanthropy program gives our children free access to their online interactive English platform, so the learning continues between visits. It's the kind of support that asks nothing back.

Most weekends, my wife and I pick up two children from the Gimcheon children's center. They come to church with us, eat with us, and sleep over at our house.
One day they were talking about something in our kitchen and one of them said, "We have that at our home." Not at your home. At our home.
Nobody taught them to say it. That is the whole ministry in four words: a child who has decided they belong somewhere.
