Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves
Proverbs 31:8-9 states, "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." It's a prescriptive passage, which reminds us of how we need to live our lives. Other passages describe God's heart for those who are in need, especially orphans and widows. I ask myself why there are so many commands about caring for orphans/widows and rationale for God's heart towards orphans. If we examine our relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we were once lost and without hope and future, but through the work of Christ, we were adopted into God's family. We have been given new hope, the promise of eternal life. There are many Christians who often can get passionate about various causes ranging from political to social. However, when it comes to caring for widows and orphans, God asks us to keep that in front and center of our thoughts and do something about it. Please spend the next two weeks praying for those who are fatherless and those serving in the frontlines caring for orphans and widows.
